Attorney Spotlight

AWD LAW attorneys Monica Pertea and Colleen Maring head our regulatory compliance practice. Recently, dozens of hotels and other businesses in Northern Arizona have been sued in waves by individual plaintiffs alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Monica Pertea and Colleen Maring have organized multiple defendants to these lawsuits in Flagstaff and other parts of Arizona in a way that has allowed their matters to be handled quickly and efficiently.

Before joining AWD LAW, attorney Colleen Maring developed significant expertise in regulatory compliance, gaining experience on both the plaintiff and defense sides of such cases, representing injured plaintiffs and corporations facing allegations. Among other things, she litigated key cases with the National Association of the Deaf to improve the interpretation and application of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other civil rights matters. She later defended corporations from unfounded EEOC and discrimination claims. She also successfully argued on behalf of all inmates on Louisiana’s death row to defend them from a suit by the State of Louisiana that tried to employ state regulations to prevent any inmate from challenging lethal injection protocols.
